IETF 86 - Orlando, FL, USA March 10 - 15, 2013 (Presentation (slides)
March 11, 2013 CohortFS presented to the NFSv4 working group at IETF 86 in Orlando, Fl, proposing to restart/continue standardization of parallel metadata access in NFSv4. pNFS metadata striping ("metastripe"), a concept originated by Mike Eisler in 2008, describes a mechanism to dramatically increase metadata scalability in NFSv4, extending pNFS. The metastripe model provides support for scaling essentially all metadata operations in NFSv4, including opens, file and directory creates, lock operations, and layout coordination. It also provides for parallel directory enumeration.
